The MLK Day of Service became a National Day of Service in 1994 and has been known as a “Day On, Not a Day Off” ever since. Its purpose is to bring to life Dr. King’s teachings by bringing the community together and celebrating his vision of freedom and a unified diverse community. Join us as we honor Dr. King’s vision of a community generated by love. Spend the day volunteering in your community. For example: volunteer at a local nursing home, hospital, animal shelter, library or food bank. Become a tutor. Participate in a town-wide clean-up. Help a local nonprofit raise funds for their work. Do One Thing for a better world on Martin Luther King Day of Service.
